📜 起源 Origins

Saint Patrick’s Day is a special day that is celebrated every year on March 17th. This day is named after Saint Patrick, who is one of the most well-known saints in Ireland.

聖派翠克節是每年在3月17日慶祝的特殊日子。這一天是以聖派翠克的名字命名的，他是愛爾蘭最知名的聖人之一。

A long, long time ago, there was a boy named Patrick who lived in Britain. When he was 16 years old, he was captured by pirates and taken to Ireland. He had to work very hard as a shepherd and during this time, he started praying a lot and became very religious.

In January 1969, a serious oil spill explosion occurred in Santa Barbara, California, causing more than 10 million liters of crude oil to leak, resulting in the death of a large number of marine life and environmental pollution. Gaylord Nelson, a senator from Wisconsin, USA, who had long been concerned about environmental issues, proposed the idea of holding environmental speeches on campuses. He gathered social activists like Denis Hayes to promote air and water pollution issues across the United States, awakening people’s attention to environmental pollution.

• ♻️ Refuse (拒絕): Refuse to purchase or use products or materials that generate waste. For example, refuse to use plastic bags when shopping, choose to bring your own shopping bag.

杜德夫人與父親節的起源

「杜德夫人」在年幼時失去母親，使得其父親「威廉‧史馬特」必須獨力撫養六名子女。在父親過世後，杜德夫人深感父親的偉大，希望有一個節日來紀念父親。在教會牧師的支持下，她於1910年發起設立父親節的運動。經過努力，華盛頓州州長同意，並於同年舉行了第一屆父親節慶祝活動。1972年，美國總統尼克森正式將每年六月的第三個星期日定為父親節。

世界各地的父親節日期

台灣為什麼在8月8日慶祝？

台灣的父親節選在八月八日，這與許多國家將父親節訂在六月第三個星期日大不相同。這個特別的日期背後有著一段感人的故事，與抗日戰爭勝利息息相關。

台灣父親節的由來

1945年，抗日戰爭接近尾聲，許多父親為了保家衛國，犧牲在戰場上。為了紀念這些為國捐軀的父親，上海的愛國人士在1945年8月8日提出訂定「父親節」的提倡，希望藉此來表達對他們的敬意。

台灣父親節日期的選擇

Today we are going to learn how to make a beautiful origami carnation step by step.
今天我們要逐步來學習如何製作美麗的摺紙康乃馨。
What materials will we need?
我們需要準備什麼材料呢？
We need to prepare a piece of colored paper as the petals.
我們需要準備一張色紙用來製作花瓣。
You can choose any color you like to use.
你可以選擇任何喜歡的顏色。
Also, we should get a green paper as well.
另外，我們也需要準備一張綠色的色紙。
And don’t forget to prepare a tube of white glue and a pair of utility knife.
也別忘了準備一管白膠與一把美工刀。
We have all the materials ready.
我們準備好所有材料
Let’s make it!
開始製作囉！

Let’s make the petals first.
一開始讓我們先來製作花瓣。
We are going to divide the paper into four equal squares.
我們要將紙張切割成四個相等的正方形。
First, fold the paper in half. Then unfold it. Fold it in half again.
首先，將紙張對折。然後將它展開。再把它對折一次。
Use a box cutter to cut along creases.
使用美工刀沿著摺痕切割。
Fold the paper into a triangle.
然後，將紙折成三角形。
Then unfold it.
接著展開它。
Fold it into a triangle again.

And there will be a cross-folds on the square.

Next step, lift the side corners upward and connect them to the upper corners.

In short, fold both of the corners to the middle. Then unfold it.

You can see that we just create two creases on both sides.

First, apply white glue inside each petal.

Open one side of the petals and then apply white glue.

Afterwards, insert another origami petal.

Repeat the same steps.

Next, unfold the stem.

◎ 母親節故事 Story of Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring mother in a family. Most people around the world will show their appreciation towards their mothers. Mother’s Day falls on different days depending on the different countries. It is held on the second Sunday of May in many countries, such as United Sates, Australia, Italy, Switzerland and so on. As for Taiwan, we also celebrate on this day. In this year, it will occur on May 9. However, there are still many countries celebrate Mother’s Day on other dates. In United Kingdom, for example, Mother’s Day is always celebrated on three weeks before Easter Sunday. Interestingly, in some countries, Mother’s Day is even an annual public holiday. Take Thailand as an example, it is held exactly on August 12th, the birthday of the current queen, Sirikit. Though not all countries celebrate it on the same day, the sentiment is the same. We all sincerely express our heartfelt thanks to our mothers. There are various ways to honor moms. Boro and Bomei decide to start mom’s day by offering her favorite breakfast. And they will give their mother handmade origami carnations and cards. They also plan to spend a whole day with mom and tell her how lucky they are to be with her. ◎ Christmas Story 聖誕老人的秘密

Once upon a time, there was a wealthy man named Nicholas. He is very kind and generous. He would often give away all his wealth and possessions to those in need. And this man is the so-called Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, or simply Santa. There are many stories about the generosity of Santa Nicholas. One of the most popular stories is that he saved three poor sisters from being sold into slavery by their father. To thank him, later generations set up the Saint Nicholas Day. It is celebrated on the 6th of December every year. After Santa Claus passed away, people continued the practice of giving gifts. Gradually, his popularity spread across all borders. That’s how we get our Santa Claus! Many people believe that Santa lived in the North Pole. In order to put gifts in the Christmas stockings on the Christmas trees, he would ride a sleigh pulled by reindeers on Christmas Eve. And Santa Claus will deliver gifts through the chimney. Boro and Bomei wrote letters to Santa Claus this year, asking for candy canes and gingerbread houses as gifts. Mom and Dad told them to go to bed early that day so that Santa Claus can come earlier. I hope that our wishes can come true. Merry Christmas!

Easter is coming. Painting Easter eggs is a good way to celebrate Easter. You can do it with your family, friends, or classmates.
復活節快到了。彩繪復活節彩蛋是慶祝復活節的好方法。你可以與家人，朋友或同學一起做。
It’s must be fun and interesting. Lots of people may buy some decorating kits to make a colorful egg.
一定很好玩又有趣。很多人可能會購買一些裝飾套件來製作五彩繽紛的復活節蛋。
But actually, there are tons of ways to make them different.
但是實際上，有很多方法可以使它們與眾不同。
Now, I want to show you how to make special “Boro” eggs step by step.
現在，我想帶你一步一步來製作特殊的“波羅” 復活節蛋。
First of all, boil the eggs. Put the eggs in a pan of hot water.
首先，煮雞蛋。將雞蛋放入一鍋熱水中。
Allow the egg to boil for about seven to eight minutes. And then remove the egg to let them cool.
讓雞蛋煮約七到八分鐘。然後取出雞蛋讓它們冷卻。
Second, prepare a paint brush and a can of gray paint, and then dye the eggs.
其次，準備ㄧ支畫筆與一罐灰色顏料，然後將雞蛋染色。
The step is very easy. Coat the egg in two or three layers of paint. Then, wait until the eggs are completely dry.
這個步驟非常簡單。在雞蛋上塗二到三層顏料。然後，等到雞蛋上的顏料完全乾掉。
Remember not to dilute the paint with too much water, otherwise it will be difficult to apply gray paint on the eggs.
記得不要加太多的水稀釋顏料，否則會很難將雞蛋上色。
You can also prepare a container and dye the eggs. Fill the container with half cup of water.
你也可以準備一個容器來將雞蛋染色。在容器中倒入半杯水。
And then put one teaspoon of white vinegar as well as twenty to twenty-five drops of gray.
然後放一茶匙白醋，以及二十至二十五滴灰色顏料。
Afterwards, put the eggs in the liquid and let them soak about five minutes or even longer.
之後，將雞蛋浸泡在液體中，浸泡約五分鐘或更長的時間。
Next, place them in an egg carton to dry. Now the eggs are ready for decoration.

Third, decorate the eggs with cardboard. Prepare two pieces of cardboard. Paint one of them black, and the other red.

Use the black one to make two small circles out of cardboard and stick the circles on the center of the eggs as Boro’s eyes.

Don’t forget to make four small rectangles as well. These are Boro’s foot and arms.

After that, cut two moon shapes from red cardboard as his cow horns. Stick them on the top of the eggs.
之後，拿出紅色的厚紙板，並剪下兩個月亮的形狀放在雞蛋的頂端，當作他的牛角。
Last, paint special clothes for Boro. Well done! We’re finished.
最後，為Boro畫上特殊的衣服。

In order to celebrate Children’s Day, Boro decided to invite his siblings and friends to go on a picnic in the nearby park.
為了慶祝兒童節，波羅決定邀請他的兄弟姐妹和朋友在附近的公園裡野餐。
Bomei came up with many good ideas, such as exchanging gifts, and playing hide and seek. All of their friends agreed with her ideas.
波美提出了許多好主意，例如交換禮物，玩捉迷藏。他們所有的朋友都同意她的看法。
When they got to the park, they saw some kids playing on the seesaw. Some kids were playing on the slide and swing.

Others were playing in the sandbox with buckets and shovels. There is a little girl with a difference.

There are several different stories about Zhongyuan Festival.
關於中元節有幾個不同的故事。
Today, let me give you my version.
今天就讓我來說說我的版本吧。
The 7th month on lunar calendar is traditionally regarded as “Ghost Month” in Taiwan.
農曆七月在台灣被認為是“鬼月”。
The 15th day of the 7th lunar month is called the “Zhongyuan Festival” or “Ghost Festival”.
農曆七月十五又被稱為“中元節”或“鬼節”。
People in Taiwan have believed that the gates of hell will open up for the spirits on Hungry Ghost Festival.
台灣人相信在中元節那天，地獄之門會為鬼魂而打開。
People will honor their ancestors and wandering ghosts with offerings of food, drinks, and fruits.
人們會準備食物、飲料與水果供品來祭拜他們的祖先和好兄弟。
In order to allow them to live better in the afterlife, people will also light incense and burn praying cash for the spirits.
為了讓祂們在來世過得更好，人們還會為神靈點香和燒紙錢。
Praying cash is their currency in the underworld.
紙錢就是祂們在陰間使用的貨幣。
Many temples in Taiwan will also hold Zhongyuan Pudu, offering feasts to wandering ghosts.
在台灣很多寺廟也會舉辦中元普渡，為孤魂野鬼擺設筵席。
Most of those ghosts didn’t have family when they were alive.
這些孤魂野鬼，大多在世時沒有家人無親無故。
Therefore, nobody will worship the good brothers and give them food and money.
所以，就沒有人會祭拜祂們，給祂們食物和錢。
So, that is why people will show respect and do Pudo to them on the festival.
所以，這就是為什麼人們會在中元節表示對祂們的尊敬，並且舉辦普渡活動。
In addition, there are several famous traditional activities of Zhongyuan Festival include releasing the water lanterns and paper boats, and grappling with the ghosts.
此外，中元節還有放水燈、燒紙船、搶孤等著名的傳統活動。
Usually these activities are held on the last day of the seventh lunar month.
通常這些活動都會於鬼門關(鬼月最後一天)前舉行。
The purpose is to release the spirit of the death and pray for good luck.
目的是要超渡亡靈，並祈求好運。
People hope these good brothers who are suffering in the underworld can be saved through these activities.
人們希望透過這些活動，讓這些在陰間受苦受難的好兄弟們能夠得到救贖。

鬼月習俗＆禁忌 Customs & Taboos of Ghost Month

◎ Things To Do During the Zhongyuan Festival

1. Remember to prepare a washbasin of water and towels for the spirits and good brothers to wash their faces and hands.
   除了供奉食物外，別忘了也準備一個洗臉盆和毛巾，讓神靈和好兄弟們洗臉和洗手。
2. It’s unlucky to say the word “ghost,” so people called them “good brothers” instead.
   說“鬼”這個字不吉利，所以人們都稱祂們為“好兄弟”。
3. Sometimes, people will set a place at the table for their deceased relatives when they have meals.
   有時，人們吃飯時會在餐桌座位上為已故的親人留一個位置。

1. To avoid placing the offering table indoor when we worship ancestors and good brothers.
   祭祀祖先和好兄弟時，避免將供桌放在室內。(*家裡的陽台也不可以哦！)
2. Do not speak out your name when you worship the spirits.
   敬拜神靈時不要說出你的名字。
3. Do not set off the firecrackers. It will scare the ghosts.
   不要放鞭炮。會嚇到鬼。(→因為這樣祂們會找不到回家的路)

🥮 中秋節神話寓言 (▴版本非常之多，故事內容僅供參考！)

◎ 后羿射日＆嫦娥奔月
故事大綱：「后羿」傳說是堯時期的人物，受到天帝命令下凡除害，因此后羿就攜妻子嫦娥降臨人間，先是射下九個太陽(原本天空中有十個太陽)，又除去四處危害的惡獸，替百姓安定生活。

故事正文：從前從前，天上的皇帝有十個太陽兒子，原本他們都一個一個乖乖地輪流出現在天空中，但日子一天一天的過去，他們就覺得好無聊，於是討論要一起出去玩。這時天空中就同時出現了十個太陽，劇烈的熱氣籠罩大地，熱光照射著土地上的一土一寸，使得土地乾裂、樹木農作物都枯萎而死，百姓也因此無處可躲。大夥們就希望有人能去祭拜天神，而可憐的姑娘嫦娥就被挑選為了天神的禮物，就在嫦娥即將被燒死之際，后羿下凡拯救了嫦娥，並與她結為夫妻，決定返回天庭生活。就在這時，天帝為了避免再有百姓受害，就命令后羿再次下凡除害，因此后羿就攜妻子嫦娥降臨人間。后羿與太陽們商討無果後，衝突一觸即發，后羿決定拿出他預先準備好的弓箭，將他們一個個拿下。就在后羿準備射下最後一個太陽時，嫦娥阻止了他，若是射下了最後一個太陽，整個世界將沒有了光亮，這才使得后羿罷手。天帝見此舉動大發雷霆，原先只要求驅趕太陽兒子們，后羿竟將他們趕盡殺絕，氣急敗壞的天帝並下令將后羿貶為凡人，永不得回到天庭。不久後，后羿竟奇蹟般地獲得了可以重回上天的仙丹，但仙丹不夠他與嫦娥共享，又捨不得拋下嫦娥一人，因此就將仙丹想方設法地藏了起來，但還是被擔心后羿返回天庭會被殺害的嫦娥給發現，偷偷吃下肚，獨自一人飄向了月亮。

◎ 玉兔搗藥
故事大綱：對於玉兔的身份眾說紛紜，在民間流傳著幾個版本的故事，就讓我們來說說其中最常見的三個吧！

故事正文：
有這麼一說，玉兔就是嫦娥的化身，因為祂觸怒天帝，因此每到月圓時，就要在月宮裡為天神搗藥以示懲罰。也有一說是，傳說中有三位神仙，化身為三個可憐的老人，向狐狸、猴子及兔子乞食，而狐狸和猴子都分別拿出了食物接濟老人，只有兔子沒有。後來兔子就告訴老人：「不如你們吃我吧！」，然後就縱身一躍往烈火中跳了進去。神仙們因此大受感動，將兔子送到了廣寒宮與嫦娥相伴，搗著長生不老藥。
還有另一個說法，就是傳說中有一隻修煉千年的雄兔，得道成仙。祂被玉皇大帝召見上天宮。祂有四個可愛的女兒和一位深愛的妻子，祂依依不捨地離開了妻女身旁。前往天宮的途中，看見了被押持著的嫦娥從身旁走過。兔仙疑惑地問著守門天神是怎麼一回事，在聽完嫦娥的遭遇後祂表示同情，深覺嫦娥為解救百姓而受到牽連，滿是無辜。一想到嫦娥將在月宮孤獨度日，就讓祂想到在家中的妻女，轉身立刻飛奔回家。回家後，祂立刻將嫦娥的故事告訴了雌兔，並想送他們的一個孩子到天宮陪伴嫦娥。全家人淚流滿面、依依不捨，女兒們也都很懂事地表示自己願意前往，雄兔與雌兔最終決定將小女兒送去天宮陪伴嫦娥。

◎ 吳剛伐桂
故事大綱：「吳剛」中國民間故事人物，被懲罰到月宮伐桂樹，在砍斷樹木之前，不得返回人間。但是樹木隨砍隨合，永無休止…

故事正文：古時候有一個男人名叫吳剛，他力大如牛，隨便就能把半人高的樹木從土裡連根拔起。可惜他做事毫無耐心，不管學什麼，短短幾天內就發懶，只好回家種田。但是他正常發揮，種個兩三天，老毛病又發作，開始混水摸魚偷懶偷到天邊去，就開始幻想如果自己是神仙，那麼就什麼事情都不用做了。於是他決定徒步100天，前往山上找神仙。皇天不負苦心人？！終於讓他找到白髮神仙，他立馬跪求祂教會自己如何成仙。神仙請他閉上眼睛，咻的一下帶他前往了月球。一張開眼睛，只見月球上什麼都沒有，只有光禿禿的土地，還有一顆巨大的桂樹。吳剛好奇地往前一看，發現樹下有一名女子與兔子，女子不是別人，正是奔月的嫦娥，兔子也是那位在製作長生不老藥的玉兔。發現事態不對的吳剛直呼無聊，想要立刻返回凡間。這
時神仙笑了笑告訴吳剛：「如果你能把這顆高五百丈的桂樹給砍斷，就自然能成仙回到凡間。」
吳剛也笑著應答：「這個簡單，我最會砍樹了，早點告訴我嗎！」
接著他拿起斧頭砍了又砍，只見桂樹完好如初，上面的刀痕全部都消失了。神仙笑著告訴吳剛，這顆桂樹又名「三百斧頭」，要有耐心、心平氣和的砍，才有可能砍倒，沒有耐心的人，慢走不送～砍了根本白砍。膽敢休息一下，缺口一秒消失不見，變回原來的模樣。可惜吳剛毫無耐心，只能永遠留在天上了。

Dragon Boat Festival Origins: Who is Qu Yuan?
The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. The origin of the important festival was from an intelligent official named “Qu Yuan”. Qu Yuan was a respected man who was good at diplomacy. He was appointed left minister to King Huai because of his outstanding talents. Qu Yuan loved his kingdom very much, but he could not gain respect of the new emperor after King Huai passed away. The new king appointed his brother to be prime minister. It is a pity that the prime minister hated Qu Yuan and exiled him to Jiangnan. During that tough time, Qu Yuan wrote a lot of poems to express his emotions. However, he still could not stand the emotional despair and decided to end it all. Qu Yuan jumped into Miluo River and committed suicide. When people heard the bad news, they immediately tried to find his body. In addition, people threw rice into the river to prevent fish from eating Qu Yuan and try to appease the river dragon. This is the legend of Dragon Boat Festival. Every year during the Dragon Boat Festival, Boro likes to watch the dragon boat races and stand the egg on its end. Bomei likes to make her own fragrant sachets. As for their cousin, Boyo, likes to hang moxa on the doors to keep the bad spirit away. They all love to eat rice dumplings to celebrate the festival.
端午節，又稱五五節，是在農曆五月初五慶祝。這個重要的節日是起源於一位名叫“屈原”的聰明官員。屈原是個受人尊敬的男人，他善於外交。因為才華出眾，而被任命為楚懷王的左丞相。屈原非常愛他的國家，但在楚懷王去世後，他無法獲得新皇帝的尊重。新皇帝任命他的弟弟為宰相。可惜宰相討厭屈原，將他流放江南。在那段艱難的時期，屈原寫了很多詩來抒發情感。然而，他還是無法忍受情緒上的絕望，決定結束這一切。屈原跳入汨羅江自盡。當人們聽到這個壞消息時，他們立即嘗試找到他的屍體。此外，人們還把米飯丟進河裡，以防止魚吃屈原的身體，並試圖安撫汨羅江的龍。這就是端午節的傳說。每年端午節的時候，波羅都喜歡看龍舟比賽，還喜歡立蛋。波美則喜歡自己做香包。至於他們的堂姊，波悠，喜歡把艾草掛在門上，用來趕走壞東西。他們都喜歡吃粽子來慶祝端午節。

Qingming Festival is called Tomb Sweeping Day.
清明節被稱為Tomb Sweeping Day。
It’s usually falls on April 4 or 5 of the solar calendar.
通常落在國曆的4月4日或5日。
It is an important day for showing respect and worshiping to ancestors.
這是向祖先表示敬意和崇拜的重要日子。
There are various activities for Tomb Sweeping Day, such as tomb sweeping, tomb upkeep and repair, as well as spring outings.
清明節有各種各樣的活動，例如掃墓，保養和維修墳墓以及春遊。
As for tomb sweeping, it is the most important activity to do during the Tomb Sweeping Day.
至於掃墓，這是清明節最重要的活動。
People will pay respect to their ancestors by visiting their graves, removing weeds, adding fresh soil to the graves.
人們會透過拜訪墳墓、清除雜草、為墳墓添加新鮮土壤來尊重祖先。
In addition, offering food, tea or wine, burning joss paper, and light incense are must-do activities.
此外，提供食物、茶或酒，還有燒香紙和燒香都是必做的活動。
